Burger King Whopper Junior Sandwich Review:

Price Paid: $1.39 | Company: Burger King
This is Burger King’s signature burger for those looking to save some money and settle for the smaller version of it (hence the junior). But that’s okay, we don’t mind, junior or not it’s grub time. But is it really worth it and how did it fair against our rating scale?

Look:
I like how Burger King uses a sesame-seed bun even on their budget/low-end burgers. The produce on this burger looks fresh but there seems to be a worldwide shortage of lettuce. Iceberg lettuce tastes like water and looks like ass. Increase the price by 5 cents and give me some romaine, butterhead, or looseleaf. Hook it up! Okay fine, I am done with my rant but this won’t be the last time you hear this from me. I’m so flustered right now.

Ten deep breaths later… and the thought of the word “flustered” got me giggling.

Anyways, this burger is supposed to bring a decent amount of mayo, but I guess they ran out of that too. The white onion looks like the rings of Saturn (with the meat being Saturn). Thick slices of tomato and pickle, and the oversized bun are welcoming at this price point. The build includes:

  • Sesame seed bun
  • Ketchup & mayo
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slice
  • Two pickles
  • White onion slices
  • Beef patty

Taste (8.4/10):
The beef patty needs salt but it wasn’t that big of a deal since the burger had ketchup and mayo. From what I noticed Burger King doesn’t season their patties but if they do, it’s very little. Nice for those trying to watch their sodium levels but there isn’t any reason not to season. I guess they figure their flame-broiled taste can do without it. I disagree.

The mayo makes up a lot of this burger (taste wise), making everything creamy and is sorta like a salad dressing for the lettuce. The white onion isn’t harsh due to a number of extra ingredients on the whopper junior. I get a little tang from the pickle and ketchup. The flame-broiled flavor from the beef holds up well even with the extras. All the flavors come together making a good tasting burger minus some minor annoyances.

Value (8.6/10):
At just a $1.39, the whopper junior brings a good amount of produce which is expensive as it can go bad quickly and so usually you see that reflected in the price. You’re paying $0.40 in produce on this burger (lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo) but if that isn’t worth it to you, consider their hamburger at $0.99.

310 calories (23.85 calories per gram of protein). The mayonnaise is going to create a good amount of calories that you can omit should you choose. Doing so will drop the burger down to 240 calories and 3.5 grams of saturated fat. The whopper junior scores a 2.02 on our health rating but with the mayo removed, it would increase to 2.24 (higher is healthier for you). Burger King has the lowest amount of sodium per burger (compared to every competitor), I don’t think they season their beef much, if at all.

Based on a 2,000 calorie diet:

– You can eat 6 1/2 whopper junior sandwiches, per day.

– You will reach 22 grams of suggested saturated fat in 1,364 calories or 4 1/2 whopper junior sandwiches.

– You will reach 300mg of suggested cholesterol in 7 1/2 whopper junior sandwiches.
