McDonalds_logoMcDonald’s Quarter Pounder with Cheese Review:

Price Paid: $4.29 | Company: McDonald’s
The good old quarter pounder with two, count them, two slices of cheese. 4oz of cooked beef set this burger apart from the rest, but does it measure up?

Look:
Not much to this burger other than the 4oz of meat sitting perfectly between a sesame-seed bun. Two slices of yellow American cheese stick the meat to the bun. It is complemented with ketchup, mustard, pickles and onions. McDonald’s uses onion slices instead of chopped onions (which you can find on their lesser burgers).

  • Sesame-seed bun
  • Mustard & ketchup
  • Sliced white onions
  • Two pickles
  • Yellow American cheese
  • 4oz beef patty

Taste (6.8/10):
The quarter pounder with cheese reminds me of a backyard burger, one that you slap meat onto a bun with some cheese, maybe some ketchup. Nothing fancy here. No produce other than pickles and a few onion slices. Let’s talk about the white onion. Unless you like harsh onion flavor with your burger, you might want to opt out of it. I think it throws the entire burger off-balance.

The meat patty was juicy and seasoned well. Two cheese slices between the meat of the burger add no form of creaminess. All it does is add a little bit of basic yellow American cheese flavor (meh). The pickle and mustard add a layer of complexity but basic overall (not many flavors make it up).

Value (7.4/10):
This burger is expensive. Nothing screams premium about it. It’s pretty much a large double cheeseburger with a little more meat, larger bun, etc. Oh… it comes in a neat little box. Maybe you can use it as a jewelry box.

I think McDonald’s is keeping this burger around (unchanged) because some people like it, eat it often, grew up with it, etc. Kind of like Coke changing their recipe for diet Coke, people flipped, it lost a lot of market share, long story short, they changed the recipe back. I think there are better options at McDonalds than their quarter pounder with cheese.

540 calories (17.4 calories per gram of protein). You can cut the calorie count by removing the cheese and condiments from the burger. Doing so should yield you more near 480 calories. Remember this burger brings two slices of cheese, and like I said above, it doesn’t add much to the overall taste. I don’t think you will miss having those two slices of cheese.
